How to Clean a Food Processor

Most people dread using a food processor because of the excessive amount of time required to clean each of its many parts. Luckily, the pusher, the cover, the discs, and the work bowl can all be washed in a dishwasher (though each should be placed on the top rack to prevent warping or melting). While blades, too, are dishwasher-safe, careful washing with a brush is recommended to protect the metal. Another way to clean the blade is to fill the work bowl with soapy water, hold the blade by its center plastic, and move it up and down on the center shaft.

Your stainless steel food processor motor base should never be cleaned in a dishwasher. Use a sponge to wipe it clean of spills. From time to time, make sure to clean the rubber feet on the bottom of the base; if the rubber feet are not clean, the white food processor may move on the counter when in use. If you find the rubber feet have left spots on your counter, spray the spots with a stain remover, then wipe with a damp sponge.

Chopping certain things, such as ice, spices, and oils, may scratch or cloud the work bowl. One way of keeping the food processor's work bowl clean while in use is to cover the inside of the bowl with plastic wrap before putting on the lid. When processing is done, simply discard the soiled plastic wrap.

Never store your black food processor with the cover in the locked position, as this can damage the on/off mechanism.
